Sky Ranch residents are required to carry out work duties across the groundsWork Ethic

At Sky Ranch for Boys, each boy is responsible for keeping his room clean on a daily basis. They are also assigned to duties within the living quarters. If a boy shares a room with another resident, they are responsible for splitting those duties.

These duties are inspected by the residential staff member assigned to the boy’s group. These duties include such things as cleaning the commons area, which includes sweeping, mopping and arranging chairs and couches, etc. Other duties include cleaning the bathrooms and washing windows.

In addition, a group of boys is assigned to kitchen duty, which they have for a week at a time.

This job requires clearing and washing dishes, pots and pans, cleaning the serving area and mopping the kitchen after each meal. On Sunday evenings, a thorough cleaning of the kitchen is done.

If the boy fails to perform his job(s) in a satisfactory manner, he is required to repeat them until approved by the supervisor.

During the summer months, all boys are required to work on the Ranch doing such things as grounds keeping, assisting maintenance personnel, cooks’ helper, taking care of the horses and cleaning various offices.

Each boy receives an allowance based on his rank and behavior. Boys having restitution to pay are required to work at assigned jobs and apply that money towards the restitution.

Any additional money that is earned is put into a personal account that is set up and supervised by personnel at the Ranch. Each boy may have various jobs that last throughout the year.
