The on-campus school at Sky Ranch For Boys is approved by the State of South Dakota as a special education school where we specialize and concentrate on behavioral problems.
School attendance is mandatory for all boys at the Ranch. Our school year runs year round. Our program is staffed by 5 certified teachers, which allows us to have smaller class sizes with more one on one attention.
We also provide a Title 1 program for those boys needing additional assistance in reading, math and spelling. This federally funded program is taught by a certified teacher.
The curriculum is science, social studies, math, English, woodshop, art and computer literacy. The academic level of all these areas is individualized, based on records provided prior to placement and testing done here before a boy is placed in a subject.
The testing is done using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children and is administered to help determine learning disabilities, etc. All classes are individualized to meet the needs of each student.
To accommodate those boys who may be at least 16 years of age, who will not be able to complete high school in the usual manner, we provide and supervise the preparation course for the General Educational Development Program (GED).
Since we are a GED testing center, we also administer the test for completion. More than 90 percent of the boys sent to the Ranch successfully complete the program requirements, most within a year of placement.
