Sky Ranch For Boys requires weekly individual and group counseling for each boy, provided by professionals with a combination of experience and education.
Examples of group counseling topics include:
• family issues
• emotional impacts
• self-esteem enhancement
• substance use and abuse and the effects on you and your family
• cognitive restructuring
• healthy relationships
Upon admission, each boy is assigned to a case manager who is responsible for maintaining contact with the parent(s) and the placing agency on a regular basis. This counseling explores the boy’s attitude, beliefs and perceptions of his interactions with family, school and community.
The goal of counseling is to help him understand the effect his behavior and attitudes have had on family and relationships and what can be changed to enable him to have a more pro-social approach to his life. Should the case manager feel that the boy has a more severe problem, he may be referred to one of our master level therapists for more in-depth therapy.
Quarterly reports on behavior and progress are prepared to update those involved with the child. Case plans are developed after each boy has been in residence for 30 days. They include input from our education department as well as the residential staff. Boys that are on medication for behavior management are seen monthly by a medical doctor, who monitors their medication needs. The doctor is provided with a monthly update on each boy's behavior so the proper diagnosis and solutions can be addressed. |
